A website that is not producing enquiries can make a rebuild feel inevitable. First, walk through the experience as a customer. You may find a specific problem that a new visual design would leave untouched.

01

Follow the promise from entry to action.

Start at the page a visitor actually lands on. If an ad promises a particular service but opens a homepage covering everything the business does, the visitor has to find the relevant offer again.

Read the opening without relying on what you already know about the business. Can you tell what is offered, who it is for and what happens next? Follow the main button. Does the destination continue the same conversation?

A broken link is an obvious interruption. A working link that leads to an empty page is an interruption too. Neither is solved by making the button more prominent.

02

Read the detail on a phone.

Use a real phone and move through the full page. Check whether the text is comfortable to read, whether headings explain their sections and whether navigation covers important content. Try the forms and media controls with your thumb.

Clutter is not simply the number of elements. It is the amount of competing information a person has to sort through. A long page with clear sections can be easier to use than a short one with several unrelated demands.

Keep the evidence that helps someone decide. Remove repetition, unexplained labels and decorative elements that get in the way of that evidence.

03

Check what the visitor has to wait for.

Load the page on an ordinary mobile connection, not only on the machine used to build it. Look for blank areas, large media downloads, moving layouts and controls that appear ready before they respond.

A film can be central to a creative portfolio. It still needs an intentional loading experience. Decide what the visitor sees before playback and whether that media needs to load immediately on every page.

Treat speed and responsiveness as part of using the site. A page is not finished just because a screenshot looks complete.

04

Complete the next step.

Send a test enquiry through your own form, with a clear test label. Check the confirmation and where the enquiry arrives. Review every required field: does the team need that answer before the first conversation?

Then record the issue, the proposed change and the result you expect to observe. Fix the clearest interruption first. Compare the behaviour afterwards, while remembering that traffic quality, the offer and demand also affect enquiries.

A rebuild may still be the right decision. Make it because you understand the limitations of the current site, rather than because you have run out of ideas about what to change.
